Bioenergetics is the study of energy in living things. It is defined as a form of psychodynamic and psychotherapy (or hypnotherapy) that combines working with the body and mind, to help resolve emotional and chronic pain conditions. Bioenergetics psychotherapists maintain that there is a strong connection between mind and body.
Research has indicated that what affects the body, affects the mind – and vice versa. This proves that the mental defences one might use to cope with pain or stress, are anchored in the body as well as in the mind. The patterns are understood by bioenergetics therapists, and gives credence to the body and mind connection.
Bioenergetics therapy, often combined with hypnotherapy, allows the therapist to access the subconscious mind, and help patients to understand how repressed feeling of the past, can affect their lives in the present, manifesting as chronic pain and stress.
